Critical reflection on learning in the course
After 14 weeks of working on interpersonal communication skills, I am confident to say that I am able to present more confidently, working better with my peers and able to use the various communicative tools I have learnt from lectures to assist me in future work. I started this course with the intention to be better, feel better and do better. With all the wisdom shared by my peers and lecturers, I have definitely learnt a lot, gathering different perspectives and being able to critically analyse people and their behaviours.
In my first blog post, I mentioned that I would like to learn various communicative tools and techniques so that I would be able to use the right method for the right people at the right time. Every lecture was a step closer to achieving this goal. In fact, throughout the 14 weeks, I have learnt new communicative tools and techniques in every lecture. It was engaging and interesting. Especially when we get the chance to peer-teach. It is an excellent and interesting way to learn. It gave me a greater depth of understanding what I am learning and what I want my audience/peers to take away. I appreciate when my peers shared their opinions with me on certain topics which led to an open discussion. It was due to their discussions that I am able to learn from a broader perspective.
Another objective I have set for myself was to improve on my presentation skills, to be able to present with better clarity and concision. To be honest, I do not feel that I have yet to hit this goal. In the latest final presentation, I hear myself stuttering and panicking while trying to find words in my head during the presentation. I hoped to be more concise in my points instead of explaining in a rather round-about way. I will practice more on my presentation skills, using the tools I have learnt in 'interpersonal communication' to assist in communicating and presenting to my peers and even superiors.
